Smart Servo Drive Replacement
This week at Axis Systems we, the interns, integrated a solution to replace an obsolete product. We are referring to the Danaher “IDC B8961” single-axis Smart Drive. This versatile product was well received for many years because of its ease of use. From the built-in display, the user could jog the motor, send absolute or relative move commands, execute programs … etc. All of this functionality was introduced in a single product with little setup required. As a result, the news of this discontinuation prompted the engineering team to create a comparable replacement. We decided to use Kollmorgen products, which features a programmable AKD drive with an AKI display (HMI). Using the Kollmorgen Visualization Builder software, we created several screens and mapped commands using the corresponding AKD addresses. The final result can be seen in the video link below.
